Hello and welcome to my humble site. Here you'll find much stuff about Painkiller - the cult-classic FPS masterpiece forged by polish devs People Can Fly back in the now-distant 2004. For the unenlightened, here's the briefest possible history on the PK "franchise":
- 2004, April: Painkiller, developed by PCF, is released by DreamCatcher Interactive.
- 2004, November: The expansion Battle Out of Hell (which will be referred to as BooH throughout this site), also developed by PCF, is released by DreamCatcher.
- 2007: Painkiller: Overdose, originally a fan-made mod by Mindware Studios which eventually got DreamCatcher's blessing is released. By DC.
- 2009: Painkiller: Resurrection, developed by Homegrown Games, is released by JoWooD.
About the site
Now I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume you already see the four tabs above - yes, well, that's mostly what the site is about. But in case you are the rare person that has never played much Painkiller before but is interested enough to have gotten this far in this wall of text - let me break it down for you in more detail.
If you've played at least twenty minutes of any Painkiller game, chances are you're probably aware of the many secret areas in almost every level of the game. Hunting them has been a staple of PK players ever since the game was released. Since, inevitably, all of them were eventually discovered, people began to look for alternative ways of getting them. So there's a section dedicated specifically to them. There are instructional videos for each one, showing one of the possible methods (usually one of the easier ones) of getting it. For some secrets there are multiple videos showing alternative ways as well.
Shortcuts are a little different. Some time ago players discovered that in certain levels, certain areas can be entirelly skipped. That, in addition to opening up many new avenues for breaking speedrun records for example, also served players with the far less flashy purpose of simply bypassing disliked sections of levels. The Shortcuts section contains videos demonstrating where and how you can achieve relative freedom from the invisible barriers :)
The Stuff section is the place for information and downloads. There you can find a complete Tarot Card guide, articles, some curious behind-the-scenes trivia and easter eggs, as well as the main patches for the game, many mods and fleabay/kalme's famous addon - Powermad. If you have a suggestion for something i should add there don't hesitate to send me an e-mail.
Meta
Painkiller: Revealed was created in the summer of 2009 by myself (Shaddy) and my friend Undead_Warrior. Back then the official Painkiller forums at DreamCatcher's site were still online, and despite the already old age of the game people were still finding enough interesting things to keep playing it.. more or less. During one.. let's call it "spike of activity", me and Undead wholeheartedly decided we were going to try and build the "definitive Painkiller site". Now, there were already Painkiller sites at that time of course. Some actually had way more information than ours has even today, and had even lived out their entire lifetime so to say. There were also countless YouTube videos showing every secret, shortcut and anything else you can imagine. At the end of the day though, there wasn't really any easy, centralized place for a player stuck on some particular secret or Tarot Card requirement to get some help and information. Our site sought to fill that role. Instead of tediously waiting half an hour to download some video while you've Alt+Tabbed out of the game in frustration, now you can simply navigate to whatever it is that troubles you and watch a quick one-minute YouTube embed.
The site contains more than 200 videos, every single one of which was painstakingly recorded by me and Undead over the course of a few months. We tried to maintain a certain standartization in all of them, so most (with the exception of 2 or 3 really) are the same resolution, same bitrate etc. After our entire core video content was done it was uploaded to the site's dedicated YouTube channel in order for it to be embedded on the site, as well as to achieve wider distribution on two fronts instead of just one. Over the course of two months i built the site and assembled the whole thing, with the help and feedback of members of the Painkiller community. I am not a professional web designer or a developer though - i'm learning as i go, but i prefer writing code to designing :) Among the huge number of software i used are: Adobe CS4, MeGUI, VirtualDub, Notepad++ and AviSynth.
So that's about it. Thank you for reading all of this, enjoy the site, enjoy Painkiller and feel free to voice your questions, suggestions and thoughts - you can reach me at maledicted[at]Gmail[dot]com. You can find me around the web too - just visit the community forums here or find me on YouTube, TV Tropes, Last.fm, Google+ and the STALKER and Fallout Wikia sites.
Last but not least, i'd like to thank all the people that helped me realize this project, the people from the old forums who provided feedback, the people from the new forums for being here, the good people that sent me e-mails and mods i hadn't included in the site, SYS, kalme, cyody, Varus and many others for being the first names i looked up to back in the day, and my very special and heartfelt thanks to Risto Jouslahti for riding through all this with me and all the help and support.
